I was excited to read Intrusion- it's the second book centered around security/privacy attorney, Chris Bruen and his on again, off again, ex-hacker girlfriend, Zoey. Intrusion had all the makings to be a great read...unfortunately it fell short.

First, I couldn't suspend belief far enough to buy that an elite, privacy lawyer would go galley-vanting off to China, with no support team, and no plan. I mean mediocre attorney's have people running all kinds of errands on their behalf....attorneys rarely do anything outside a courtroom...That's where they shine and they spend their time preparing for it. (As well they should.)
Second, there was a lot of almost preachy talk about information privacy that seemed to me to serve no other purpose than to extend the length of the book....It wouldn't change anything about the story if it were all removed. But it sure would've changed everything had those pages been filled with various supporting characters, their expertise and backgrounds.

A few short years ago, if you asked what is "hacking"? A dry cough would've been the answer. Today it's a real concern, from Wall Street to my street and everywhere in between. So the storyline itself is relevant and interesting - it's the way it was delivered that ruined it for me. Some people may like it, I just wasn't one of them.

Happy Reading,

RJ
