FaberWare 13 Piece Knife Set (Natural wood block)

Farberware Self-Sharpening 13-Piece Knife Block Set with EdgeKeeper Technology, Natural

Farberware Self-Sharpening 13-Piece Knife Block Set with EdgeKeeper Technology,

Barely 3☆'s
The Faberware 13 piece set has everything you need to slice, dice, mince, and cut and it looks nice on the kitchen counter. The knives have black and stainless handles and are displayed in a wood block. "Faberware" is on the lower third of the block, imprinted on a small, stainless 'tag.' (See pic) It's very classy. Having the block on the counter doesn't feel like an advertisement for the company as with some items that have large, glaring logo tags. The block has a small footprint (approx 6.5×9×14.5in), it doesn't require a lot of space. This block will fit nicely in any kitchen. The black/wood style with work with most all kitchen themes.

It says All the knives have ergonomically designed hollow handles. Which I found to be terribly uncomfortable. There's no way to hold the knife comfortably because of the squared off edges.(see pictures) The straight edge knives are forged from "premium high-carbon stainless steel." (quoted from manufacturer) They are NOT laminated. We have sliced, diced, cut and minced everything from garlic cloves and parsley to celery, tomatoes, and French fries. We trimmed, then cut beef ribs, pork chops, and bone-in T-bone steaks. My husband prefers the 8" Chef's Knife. While I like the 5: Santoku. I would rate the knives performance average. Certainly not as good as our laminated Chef's knife. The serrated knife did a good job on crinkle carrots. We've used the steak knives when serving pork chops and steaks. They looked nice on the table and cut the meats easily. (Here again the knife was uncomfortable to hold.)
The block is equipped with a ceramic self-sharpener for the flat edge knives. Simply taking the knife out, then replacing it keeps the knives sharp and ready to use. Lastly, these knives ARE NOT dishwasher safe. They must be hand washed and dried immediately. In the fast-paced, hurried lives of most, this may be a deal breaker.

When the set arrived I couldn't wait to start cutting and slicing. After using these knives for four weeks I'll be glad to put them back in the box and into the attic. While it is an attractive set, the knives are NOT laminated, NOT dishwasher safe, Not comfortable to use and Not competitively priced. For these reasons I cannot recommend this set.
